Chapter 30: Divisions

All right, here's the thing, reader[s]. I have never understood to this day what was so hilariously wrong about Perry's comment that France exported fashions. I mean, it does, doesn't it? Is the joke just that fashions are a non-physical entity? How is that supposed to "set the school laughing"? No matter how I try to internalize the social mores of the Emily books, there's always a snag or two, and that's one. Is the nature of Perry's faux pas as opaque to anyone else?

In Chapter 30, Evelyn re-reads a story, plots a class prank, and fails to understand a friend. Meanwhile, Emily Starr is always hanging around the Shoppe and glaring at innocent fellow shoppers in a hopeless attempt to assuage her own petty jealousy. Poor, dear Emily!
