Margery sent this one to Harper's Monthly. Fortunately she kept a copy, since the original was probably drowned in the tears of the editorial staff."

That's Sarah Jeanette Duncan, describing her early creative efforts circa 1885. Quoted in Literary Culture and Female Authorship in Canada 1760-2000. I haven't read very far in, but I think I like her.
