Chapter 26: Regarding Herring Barrels

Perry, Marsh, Polly Tolliver, and other upstarts and upstart-aspirants are discussed; a poem by Perry is considered for the Quill and subsequently accepted, and there is a general outbreak of geographically-inappropriate spring poetry immediately prior to the ice breaking in the harbor.

The Blakes tend toward snobbery; what can I say? At least they aren't tacky retrograde snobs with herringbone-sanded floors and candles and taffeta bonnets like certain old-maid-prone Murray clans we might subtly allude to.

Say what you will about the Blake family, but at least they adopt relevant technologies in a timely manner following an appropriate interval of skepticism like normal people, Emily dear.
