Temporarily out of commission

I've fallen behind on posting because of an ongoing project at work (sorting through all the books from the flooded storage unit)

silverfish mountain

Turning piles of boxes into piles of books is a lengthy process that is not good for my back, my spare time, or my vague resolution to stop bringing home every book in the world. But it has to be done.

beautiful books

I should be back in the game by Wednesday.

It's going surprisingly well for how impossible it is!

Ah, good luck with it! I'm sorry about the water damage - that's a bit heart-breaking, and I know books are harder work than people realise.

But I was nevertheless kind of delighted to see the bookshelves pop up on my flist. *missing libraries*

The water damage part is pretty heartbreaking; we've lost some beautiful and valuable books, some interesting ones, and some that are not being mourned too much, like some of the dozens of copies of Tuesdays with Morrie or Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance people keep donating. Luckily, the damage is less widespread than we were expecting and some very good stuff was spared.

What happened to your libraries?

Oh, that is nice that it wasn't quite as bad as feared! Barring the odd fruit lolly thing that decimated a shelf once, I haven't had to deal with it myself, but one of our nearby library services had a big flood in a main library, and... yes, just heart-breaking, really.

Happily, nothing has actually happened to my libraries - unlike most of the UK's library services, we haven't had to shut one in the recent cuts. However, what they did instead was to completely get rid of the man't team and all specialists, myself included. I wound up doing a job I was terrible at (I was a children's librarian; I was not cut out for sorting out road mending and difficult councillors and photographing dog poo for a living) and then I got ill. I am now better enough to volunteer for a bit in one of the libraries, but every so often I get librarian-homesickness, or whatever it should be called. Your behind the scenes pics made me go oh! look! shelves! boxes! books! ♥

I'm glad your library wasn't cut out of existence, but I'm sorry you lost the job you were good at & glad you can go back a little.

I really shouldn't have gone in to work today; I should have stayed home and read and rested (it wouldn't have hurt anything) but there are so many books right now and they are soooo tempting :\

Perfectly understandable! (Though rest is v important, too - you should have some of that as well. ;-D)
